Philip Edward CRISP 1914-1915

Philip Edward Crisp (1903-1969) was born at Badsey on 25th October 1903, the seventh of 11 children of Elijah Crisp, the postmaster, and his wife, Rose.  He entered Badsey Council School in November 1906 aged just three and left in 1916 when he gained a scholarship to Evesham Grammar School.  In 1914, soon after the start of the war, a Mr Leslie Shovelton gave instruction in scoutcraft at Badsey Manor House to about a dozen boys for several weeks, which may well have been the inspiration for Philip’s 1914 painting of a hat.

Philip married Lilian Annie Byrd in September 1928.  He died at Evesham on 22nd March 1969, aged 65.
