Sybil Rosemary BLOCKLEY (1910-1952)

Biographical Details

Sybil Rosemary Blockley (1910-1952) was the daughter of the Vicar of Old Basing, and it was in this household that Cyril Sladden was billeted for a short time in February 1915.

Sybil Blockley was 11th November 1910 at Oxford, the youngest of three children of the Reverend Thomas Trotter Blockley, a clerk in holy orders, and his wife, Ethel (née Hubback). 

The family lived at 3 Northmoor Road, Oxford, then in 1912 they moved to Old Basing when Reverend Blockley became the Vicar there.  Cyril Sladden stayed with the Blockley family at The Vicarage, Old Basing, in February 1915.  Sybil, who was only four at the time, became his most ardent admirer. 

Sybil became a secondary school teacher and, in 1939 was living at 15/17 Sheepcote Road, Harrow, with four other teachers.

Sybil died at Edgware General Hospital on 5th June 1952, aged 41.
