MAJOR, Thomas Ernest (1896-1975) – Worcestershire Regiment

Driver Thomas Ernest Major (1896-1975) was born in Bengeworth, the son of Charles and Eliza Major.   He lived in Wickhamford Lane in 1901 helping his father in market gardening.  By 1911 he was living at 21 North Road, Evesham.

Thomas joined up on 5th October 1914 and was initially posted to the 8th Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment (No 3260) as a Private.  He transferred to the 106th Royal Field Artillery in 1915 as a Driver (Nos 982 & 845731) and went to France on 22nd May 1918.  He appears on the 1919 Absent Voters' List as from the parish of Evesham St Peter, Bengeworth.

He received the British War and Victory medals on 20th July 1923, when he was living at Silk Mill Cottages, Badsey.  He died in Evesham in 1975.
