PEACE, WAR & REMEMBRANCE

THE GREAT WAR IN BADSEY, ALDINGTON & WICKHAMFORD

OUR  NEXT  PUBLICATION  -  NOVEMBER  2018

Price £6, 176 pages

As part of our WWI project, “Badsey, Aldington and Wickhamford - a rural community's view of the Great War”, The Badsey Society will be publishing its fifth book in November – our first since 2011. Written by Maureen Spinks, and with a Foreword by Professor Stephen Badsey (whose forebears lived in Badsey some 400 years ago) of The University of Wolverhampton, the book looks at all aspects of village life during this pivotal point in history. The war was fought not just on the battlefield, but also on the home front.  Children grew up in the shadow of war, their fathers absent or lost. Women became directly involved, picking up the pieces of industry and agriculture as the men went off to fight. Many hours were spent in fund-raising for a multitude of good causes in connection with the war.  The community during that period also included Belgian refugees and German prisoners of war.

The book is to be published on Friday 9th November 2018, timed to coincide with the commemorations for the centenary of the end of the war. The book launch will take place in St James’ Church, Badsey, at 7.30 pm. The book will then be on general sale in The Spar, Badsey, and available online through this website.
