Case for exemption
Mr Geoffrey Jones, market gardener, Badsey, appeared for his son, John K Jones (18), who assists him on his 23 acres of arable garden land, besides orcharding, etc. Mr Jones said he had no other help. He had written to the Agricultural Committee for a soldier and had one, and one left, and he was expecting another. Mr Binyon inquired what the soldiers were like, and Mr Jones said the last man did not know a swede from a parsnip – he was a collier. The Chairman said he had a collier working for him who was working very well indeed. He did not know much when he came, but he did now.
