The military applied for a review of the certificate granted to Frank Thould (39), single, a Badsey market gardener (who has passed for general service), on the ground that he does very little work on his land, and that retention in civil employment is not in the national interest. Mr J Wythen Roberts appeared for Thould, who maintained that his land is in a good state of cultivation. Thould has 13½ acres of open ground, and 2½ of green, and looks after 2 acres for somebody else. He buys orchards. He has one man and a boy in his employ.

Mr Roberts appeared for Frank Thould (39), single, a Badsey market gardener, who has 16 acres and looks after another 2½ acres for Mrs Pethard, whose labourer had enlisted. The Local Tribunal said the land was not cultivated to the best advantage, that the appellant did very little work himself, and that he devoted a good deal of his time to dealing.
