1807-1851 - Reverend Charles Phillott

Charles Phillott was absent for most of the time as he held the livings of Badsey and Wickhamford in plurality with other parishes, including Frome (1818) and Teignmouth.  He was born in 1774 in Bath and died in late November 1851 in Frome.  He became Vicar of Badsey and of Wickhamford on 28th March 1808.  He married Frances Dorothy Pender in Calne, Wilts in 1809 and they had nine children.  As a non-resident vicar he relied on a succession of nine assistant curates to run his Badsey parish.

Reverend Charles Phillott and his wife, Frances, are pictured above.  The inscription on the back of the pair of portraits, records that Charles Phillott was also chaplain to HRH Princess Charlotte.  She was the eldest daughter of George III with the title of Princess Royal.

Over a century later, the Reverend Peter Braby (Vicar of Badsey and Wickhamford, 1958-1973), wrote an article in the Parish Magazine about his predecessor.
