Quarterly Badsey Society newsletter sent to members. Good News: we had been awarded grant of £21,700 from Heritage Lottery Fund for “The Last Market Gardener” project. Events included: talk by Moira Jenkins of Earth Heritage Trust on Geopark Way and showing of the asparagus DVD. Whit Walk took place in Evesham and was led by Town Guide, Helen Piper. We had stand at Wickhamford Festival and hoped to have section on Wickhamford on website. Wickhamford Manor’s outdoor plays were resuming. James Lees-Milne (baptised George James Henry Lees-Milne) grew up at Wickhamford Manor and became the Historic Buildings Secretary and in his autobiography, “Another Self”, he mentioned Mrs Emily Hartwell (widow of William of Badsey) and Norris Haines of Aldington. Future events: Badsey Flower Show; coach trip to National Archives at Kew and members’ evening where items from The Badsey Archive were to be displayed. Deaths reported of Bob and Betty (nee Gould) Butler; Phillip Castle husband of Margaret (nee Wells) and John Beasley husband of Wendy. In 1928 Bob moved to Chalcroft, Badsey and his jobs included working for Espleys and for Mr Cockerton of The Firs, Badsey.
