Quarterly Badsey Society newsletter sent to members. Events: AGM and talk by Valerie Magan about Evesham Gaol and police force in surrounding villages. Valerie recalled an Evesham Journal article about bellringers William Field, Elisha Hopkins, Charles Hall, William Williams and Joseph Harris who decided to ring church bells at wedding of Mr George Field and Miss Elizabeth Hambler, daughter of Late Mr Robert Hambler of Badsey, but there was church ruling against bellringing during Lent. John Phipps and Joseph Jones, Churchwardens, brought court case against the bellringers for riotous and unlawful behaviour in church and P.C. Surrell from Bretforton issued Summons against the men. Subsequent Court case did not proceed but Badsey church rules about Lent bell ringing were relaxed. Tony Jerram Award was presented to Badsey born Les Grinnell. We also had census exhibition and programme of walks following the route of 1911 census. 1910 Valuation Survey also provides much detail. Trevor Hockenhull was a 1991 enumerator and his report is on the website. Report of deaths of Badsey’s Lionel Knight and Graham Allen of Brewers Lane. Committee members: Mike Lovatt (Chairman), Maureen Spinks (Secretary), Terry Sparrow (Treasurer), Will Dallimore, Ian Gibson, Valerie Magan, Jane Neill, Richard Phillips, Neil Thould.
