1902c – Photo of horse and carriage outside Seward House

Description

This photograph was donated to the Braziers for the exhibition in 1971, either by Cyril Sladden or Juliet Sladden (the only two of eight Sladden siblings still living).

It shows a horse and carriage drawing up outside Seward House, High Street, Badsey.  Mrs Eugénie Sladden is thought to be the woman in black welcoming a local dignitary (possibly the MP’s wife), possibly to the Rose Garden fete in 1902.  The presence of a policeman suggests that it was an important occasion.  Two men are in the garden.

The photo also shows Poplar House on the right (pulled down in the 1960s) and the high wall which used to run along the High Street.
