Leather-bound volume with the words “RESTORATION & ENLARGEMENT OF ST JAMES CHURCH, BADSEY” embossed on the front cover. The book contains 18 pages of beautiful manuscript handwriting. The first 13 pages detail the background to the 1885 church restoration; pages 14-17 concern the belfry, bells and clock, new bells being hung in 1902 and a new clock and chimes being installed in 1903; page 18 concerns the churchyard memorial cross which was erected in 1910.
A letter from Julius Sladden to his daughter, Kathleen, on 4th May 1904, confirms that the parchment pages were created in 1904: "The parchment records of the Church restoration has come it is really beautifully done with illuminated headings altogether it is quite a work of art and Mr Savory is delighted with it, it is certainly very cheap at 35/-." Page 18 concerning the erection of the memorial cross in 1910 was obviously added in at a later date.
