Envelope addressed to Miss Robinson (no letter enclosed), postmarked London 28 July 1877, postmarked Evesham 29 July 1877, Badsey; this line-engraved one penny stamp was in use until 1879. Montpellier House was then a Ladies Boarding School.
The Stone House (or Badsey Hall as it is now called) was owned by Arthur Edward Jones from 1915 until his death in 1950. It remained unoccupied for a number of years and became semi-derelict. In 1969, it was bought by Peter Marriott who employed Mick Taylor to renovate the building. Mick (born Michael Raymond Taylor at Aldington in 1944) was a builder by trade and lived at the house from 1969-1972 whilst working on it. He found several scraps of paper under the floor-boards and kept them in case they were of significance.
