High Street
High Street is the main street running through Badsey. In the 1851 census, it was referred to simply as Street; in 1881 and 1891 it was referred to as Village Street, but in various 20th century deeds it was referred to as Main Street. By 1903 it was being known as High Street. Being in the centre of Badsey, it is where housing was concentrated until the late 19th century. There are many old houses along the High Street still in existence, interspersed with more modern houses. Numbering was assigned in the 1950s starting at the junction with Synehurst Crescent and finishing at the junction with Mill Lane.
On the west side many of the older houses had land and orchards leading down to Badsey Brook, where Seward Road is now, including The Poplars, Seward House, The Laurels and Malvern House. Manorside is on the site of the former Manor Coach House, previously Marshall’s Factory.
On the eastern side, Cedar Court was built in the 1970s on land which belonged to Oakleigh House in Old Post Office Lane. 1 and 3 High Street were built in the 1970s on land which belonged to the Harrington House Estate. The remainder of the older houses along the road, including Meadway House, Gladstone Cottage and The Firs are Georgian in origin.
