Badsey & Aldington Trail - Location 7

Monks Path

This public footpath runs along the south side of the Manor House across the fields directly to Evesham Abbey. It was the route taken by monks between the two sites. Badsey was in the possession of Evesham Abbey at the time of the Domesday Book, when there were just under 800 acres in cultivation, using eight ploughs, so Badsey was an important source of food and income for the Abbey.

About 1317 Abbot Chryton acquired a house and land at Badsey (the Manor House) which began to be used as a residence for monks who came to Badsey for the purpose of bloodletting, and they too would have used the Monks Path to walk the two miles to and from Badsey.
