Cuckoo Bridge
This farm road bridge under the railway viaduct carrying the Cotswold Line is of stone and brick construction and was built in the 1850s. It enables the footpath from Aldington to Blackminster to pass under the railway. As well as being a route across Aldington Meadows, it was once used as a practice place for the newly formed Aldington Band, until they became proficient enough to practise in the village within earshot of others!
It is known locally as either 'Cuckoo High Bridge' or 'Cuckoo Eye Bridge' or just 'Cuckoo Bridge', something that was pondered upon by Aldington poet Brian Smith in his poem “The Battle of Cuckoo Bridge”.
