Walter Edmund Warmington was born at Badsey in 1923, the only child of Thomas Walter Warmington, innkeeper of The Bell Inn, Badsey, and his wife, Olive Rebecca (née Andrews). He was a pupil at Badsey Council School from 1929-1937.
Walter became eligible for the armed forces at the end of 1941 and joined the Royal Navy (Service No P/JX339144).
Able Seaman Warmington died in Cheshire on 7th December 1943, aged 19, as the result of an accident. A report in The Cheshire Observer of 11th December 1943 reveals that he had been returning from a dance in Ellesmere Port when he fell into the Manchester Ship Canal and was drowned. He is buried in Badsey churchyard. The following words are inscribed on his grave: “In loving memory of a dear son: ‘Until the day break’.”
