Mrs Douse showed great courage in facing increasing infirmity during the years she lived in Badsey. When she eventually had to go to hospital, she accepted it with exemplary Christian patience and good humour. Anyone who got a first impression of her as severe would soon have it dispelled when they saw her simile, and appreciated the delicious irony in her conversation.
