Gala Menu 1916

Menu for final night meal on board HMS Marathon. On 16th February 1916, Cyril Sladden set sail from Port Said in Egypt, bound for Mesopotamia. They had a gala last night meal on The Marathon, before transferring the next day to a smaller boat. Whilst the picture on the front of the card is of The Euripides, it was definitely The Marathon on which Cyril was sailing, as the menu indicates. The Captain of The Marathon on the voyage to Mesopotamia had been Captain of The Euripides the previous year, so was presumably using up old stock.
