The front cover reveals that it was the 32nd annual Badsey, Aldington and Wickhamford Flower Show. The first Show had taken place in 1888, but there had been seven years when it had been unable to take place: 1897 (because of the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations), 1902 (because of Edward VII’s coronation), 1915-1919 (because of the war).
In those days, the Show took place on a Wednesday; it was not until 1937 that the Show moved to a Saturday. Since 1920, the Flower Show had been held on the newly-opened Recreation Ground. The Show carried on into the evening, with the ground closing at 11 pm. Frank Wilson’s electric galloping horses was one of the main attractions.
