Garden Party in 1909

Here is a garden party in the village in 1909 with a wonderful display of Edwardian dress. The Evesham Journal of 12th June 1909 published this notice about the event (see below). The games included 'Stilts & Blindfold Race'. Mrs Carter mentioned as hosting the event was at Field Farm. This is on the south side of the A44 opposite Leystones Garage. The picture was probably taken from the farmhouse looking towards the pond.

The Carter family came from Somerset. As well as running Field Farm (also called Wickhamford Farm), they ran a restaurant in Evesham called the Wickhamford Dairy. A 1902 advertisement for this on Bridge Street appears in the first edition of an Evesham trade publication.
