A PATRIOTIC WICKHAMFORD FAMILY

Mrs Rebecca Halford, a widow of Wickhamford, has five sons serving their King and country, and this fact has brought to the notice of His Majesty, whose has caused the following letter to be sent to the proud mother:

“Madam, - I have the honour to inform you that the King has heard with much interest that you have at the present moment five sons serving in his Majesty’s Forces. I am commanded to express to you the King’s congratulations and to assure you that his Majesty much appreciates the spirit of patriotism which prompted this example in one family of loyalty and devotion to their Sovereign and Empire.”

They are Private Fred Halford, who also served through the South African war; Private Allen Halford, who is with the British Expeditionary Force in France; Private Horace Halford, who was wounded at the battle of Neuve Chappelle and is now stationed in England; Corporal Walter Halford, who is also stationed in England; and Private Harry Halford, who is serving with the Territorial Battalion in France.
