OBITUARY – MR PERCY JAMES BUTLER, BADSEY

Mr Percy James Butler of Cotswold View, 26 Willersey Road, Badsey, died at Worcester Royal Infirmary on Wednesday morning.  He had been ill for only little over a week, and his death came very unexpectedly.

Aged 80, he was born at Aldington, being the second son of the late Mr & Mrs Alfred Butler of Aldington Manor.  In 1904, he moved to Stroud, where he was engaged in the green grocery trade, later moving to Oxford and thence to Solihull, but he returned to Blackminster in 1923.

From then he was engaged in the market gardening industry in his own right until his retirement a few years ago.  For many years he was an active member of Willersey Cricket Club, and played for the club at darts.  He was also a member of the Cirencester Benefit Society for many years, and of Littleton and Badsey Growers Ltd.

He is survived by one son, Mr Ray Butler of Evesham, and one daughter, Mrs Irene Halford of Blackminster.  The funeral takes place at Badsey at 1.45 pm on Saturday.
