BADSEY AND BRETFORTON FAMILIES UNITED
Two well-known Badsey and Bretforton families were united at St James’ Church, Badsey, on Saturday when Miss Eileen Barbara Bell, only child of Mr & Mrs Walter Bell of Belvedore Huse, Bretforton Road, Badsey, and Mr Stanley David Jelfs, only child of Mr & Mrs Charles Jelfs of Weston Road, Bretforton, were married. The service, which was choral, was conducted by the Vicar, the Rev J G Jeffreys, the chosen hymns being “Lead us, Heavenly Father, lead us” and “O Perfect Love”. The organist, Mrs George Marshall, played the Wedding March as the couple left the church.
The bride, who was given away by her father, was becomingly dressed in white brocaded satin with a veil and headdress of orange blossom and carried a shower bouquet of red carnations and lilies of the valley.
The chief attendant was Miss Miriam Jelfs, cousin of the bride, who wore a pale green silk dress with a pale pink headdress and carried a bouquet of pink carnations and lilies of the valley. The two other attendants were Miss Ann Dore and Miss Evelyn Haines and they wore pale pink dresses and carried baskets of pink tulips and lilies of the valley with fern. The best man was Mr Clinton Gould, a friend of the groom, of Bretforton.
A reception was later held at the Mansion House Hotel, Evesham, where over 100 guests were entertained, the couple afterwards leaving to spend their honeymoon at Morecambe, the bride travelling in a pale blue costume with a blue hat, handbag and shoes. The groom’s present to the bride was a gold pendant, to the chief bridesmaid pear earrings, and to the smaller bridesmaids silver bracelets. The bride’s present to the groom was an illuminated watch. Their future home will be at St Veres, King’s Road, Evesham.
The bridegroom was educated at Prince Henry’s Grammar School and is employed at Cross, Son & Hodgetts, and among the many presents received was a cheque from them and also a china tea service.
