MISS E KEEN AND MR E W NICHOLLS

St James’ Church, Badsey, was the scene of the wedding on Saturday between Miss Elsie Keen, third daughter of Mr & A G Keen of 26 Synehurst, Badsey, and Mr Edwin Wallace Nicholls, second son of Mr & Mrs J W Nicholls of 6 Evesham Road, Cleeve Prior.

The bride is popular among the younger generation in the village being a lieutenant in the local branch of the Badsey Girl Guides who, to mark the occasion, presented her with a reading lamp.  She was educated at Prince Henry’s Grammar School.

The bridegroom, a native of Cleeve Prior, served overseas during the last war.  He is a popular member of the staff of the Black and White garage at Harvington who made him a present of an electric fire in the shape of a large yacht.

The bride, who was given away by her father, was charmingly attired in a beige crepe two-piece with brown accessories and carried a bouquet of pink roses with trailing fern.  She was attended by her sister, Miss June Keen, who was dressed in cherry white silk linen with matching accessories.  Her bouquet consisted of red and white sweet peas.  Mr R Nicholls, brother of the bridegroom, was best man.

The service was conducted by the Vicar, Rev W B Chapman, with Mrs G Marshall officiating at the organ and the hymn, “Lead us, heavenly Father, lead us” and “O perfect love” were sung.  As the happy couple left the church they were presented with three lucky horseshoes by Jonathan Field, Susan Keen and Margaret Ackroyd.  A reception followed at the Royal Oak Assembly Room, Badsey, where 50 guests attended.

The bridegroom’s present to the bride was a string of pearls, while she presented him with a silver cigarette case.  The bridegroom presented the bridesmaid with a silver locket.
