WEDDING OF BADSEY MAN – Bride from Wyre
The marriage took place at St James’ Church, Badsey, on Saturday afternoon, of Mr Eric Jelfs, eldest son of Mr & Mrs Ernest Frederick Jelfs, Silk Mills, Badsey, and Miss Jane Isabel Lilian Woods, only daughter of Mr and the late Mrs George Walter Woods, Chapel Cottage, Wyre, near Pershore. The Vicar (the Rev W B Chapman) officiated.
The bride, who was given away by her father, was charmingly attired in a white satin dress with wreath and veil and carried a bouquet of red carnations and fern. She was attended by two bridesmaids, Miss Marian Elgar (her friend) and Miss Mavis Jelfs (sister of the bridegroom). Both wore dresses of turquoise blue, with headdresses of turquoise blue feathers and gold coloured shoes. Each carried a bouquet of mixed chrysanthemums and ferns. Mr R Welch, friend of the bridegroom, was best man. The hymns were “O Love Divine” and “Lead us, Heavenly Father”, Mrs G Marshall being at the piano; she also played appropriate wedding music.
The bridegroom is a native of Badsey, and for six years served during the last war in the 70th Medium, RA. For 2½ years of this time he was with the 8th Army, seeing service in Sicily, Italy and Austria. He is a member of the local branch of the British Legion.
The bride, a native of Wyre, has been engaged in the nursing profession for several years, latterly at Knightwick Sanatorium.
After the ceremony, the reception was held at the Wheatsheaf Inn Assembly Room where 70 guests were entertained. Mr & Mrs Jelfs will live for the time being at No 31 Synehurst, Badsey. Among their presents was a canteen of cutlery from the patients and staff of Knightwick Sanatorium, and one from the employees of Messrs F Stewart & Sons, Badsey, where the bridegroom is employed.
