My Dear Kathleen,

I have just come in after our Parish Council election, to fill the vacancy caused by Mr Woodward’s retirement, result:

Pendlebury (Conservative)    77
Knight Jos (Radical)        46

Majority            31

Which is of course highly satisfactory.

I heard from Uncle Dilnot to-day, he really talks of paying a visit to England next year, it would be nice to see him after an absence of 38 years.

We were pleased to hear about your doings in the exam from May to-day and to find that she was better and able to manage her work.  I hope the remaining papers will have suited you.

Mr Gepp made such a nice reference to Mr Hunt in his sermon on Sunday morning, quite in his best style.

Mother’s face-ache is better, she has been to see the dentist to-day who thinks it is caused by a bad tooth, which he will try and save.

Auntie Lottie and Uncle John returned home yesterday, I just saw them at Evesham station and handed in a nice basket of roses for Grannie.

Mother has heard from Sister Miriam and I think you will both stay on, we shall have to make an effort to contribute so much a term towards May, but they have kindly undertaken to receive her on considerably reduced terms, although not quite as good as before.

I think Jack will read up for the examination for second division clerkship in the Civil Service, I must tell you all about it when you come home, we think for the present he can have some tuition by correspondence.  I should think even you will have had a plethora of examinations by the end of next week, I fancy you will both be quite ready for the holidays when they come and we shall be pleased to have you home again.

With love to May and yourself

I remain
your affectionate Father

Julius Sladden
