My Dear Ethel,
May, Cyril and Clara have all gone to the Macdonalds’ entertainment at the old school so Mother and I are keeping house and I will employ part of the evening by writing to you although there does not seem at this early stage to be much material out of which to concoct a letter. It has become quite cold and the roads are not good for cycling, however I find my front tyre is punctured so I must try and get the machine repaired to-morrow.
Yesterday evening I went, at the request of Mr Price, to the “mens’ meeting” at the parish room where Mr Savory gave a little account of the Church Restoration, Mr P. wants me to do some thing for him and I think I might tell them a little about the stars one of these days.
We heard from Jack on Tuesday, he had walked on Sunday to Delf House and railed back, they were better and Norah had gone to Folkestone. We are going to give Georgie one of the books he wants, viz, “Barrack Room ballads” by Rudyard Kipling and May is getting a writing case for your joint present, we got his post card the same time as yours, on Tuesday afternoon.
The new Leghorn cockerel has come and he is a nice bird, I should say not dear at 5/-. I must take “Silver Grey” to Pandy next week where he can be sold for 4/-.
I hear the fryed oats have produced an egg from a “game and dorking” hen so I hope they are going to begin, there were five eggs altogether to-day.
I hope the floods will not now trouble you at Clewer but I expect the water has been very high.
Love to you both
your affectionate Father
