My dearest Wife,
It is nearing post time and unless I postpone writing I am afraid you will have to be content with a short letter, I will however enclose others as far as the stamp will allow.
It was nice having your letter, dear, on the morning of my birthday thank you for your good wishes the kisses I shall want later on!
The carving knife and fork are yet to come, it will be a very useful present and thank you very much the joint present is such a nice whisky decanter, it would also serve as a claret jug having a handle.
It is very hot and the roses come out very fast I went and judged the little show at Bidford and lunched with the Hobbes’ to-morrow they are coming to tea and at 5.30 I must cycle to Fladbury to “dub a dub” at a Primrose League meeting, so you see I have plenty to occupy me.
Sunday and Sunday week with next Wednesday are the open days for the garden.
We expect George and Lizzie on Tuesday they are having a sea trip from Glasgow to Manchester.
Brailsford is very energetic in getting the garden tidy in view of the visitors.
It is very hot now but not by any means unbearable, I should not wonder if it ends in the usual thunderstorm.
We got the Churchyard hay in all right.
Those Brewers are unlucky, Rose has gone to the hospital for an operation for appendicitis.
Arthur went off this afternoon and will probably return about next Wednesday.
