My dearest Eugénie,
We have been thinking to-day now that you are getting nearer to us every hour and to-morrow evening it will be nice to think you are once more this side of the water and really coming home on Wednesday.
I have to go to Bretforton Club dinner that day but otherwise I shall be in readiness to meet you at any hour, if you do not know by what train you are coming in time to write, you must send a wire.
Poor William Pethard died early yesterday morning, he had been in a hopeless state for some days.
It still keeps dry here although rain threatens at times, a good soaking would do everything in the garden good.
Arthur went up to Oxford this morning, he received your letter. They are delighted at Brecon, Mr Chambers writes:
“I must congratulate you on Arthur’s admirable achievement. He should have a very fine career before him: you must be a proud father”.
How about the proud Mother, dear wife?
We have Edith Knight in for a few hours just to help and of course Emily has her washing. Brailsford is going on Thursday for the week end, he is going home. George has been to see old Haynes this afternoon and Lizzie went for a walk with Ethel and Juliet, that little maid is counting the hours for Mother to come! Cyril was not unwilling to miss the train on Friday at Cheltenham and just have a sight of the roses, he was looking quite well and in his normal good spirits.
I could not write to you in Paris as I was not sure where you would stay.
