My dear Cyril,

Very excellent result, on first trial too, we are all highly pleased and send congratulations.  I expect you wired Brecon, I have apprised “the others” on post cards but they may probably get the news from the paper, the Ballid list was in the Times this morning, including the Science, so I felt sure you would know to-day.  How long does the exam in this group last, I think it well you should go through with it on the chance of going one higher.  As we understand this Ch. Ch. ex. is of good value, I think (if you do not get a schol of better value in this second group) you had better rest satisfied and not enter for Jesus at all, what do you think?  I have asked Arthur his opinion and asked him to let me know if he thinks differently.  Of course you have friends at Jesus but I have no doubt you would find C.h.Ch., all right and there is a “good flavour” in belonging to “the house”, moreover you could hardly await the result of the Jesus exam before definitely accepting this Exhibition, if you feel any doubt on the matter you could enter your name and afterwards scratch, I think you told me Thursday was the last day for sending in, Juliet says she liked the paper very much, I fancy she has done it creditably but it is not yet marked, Marion Openshaw also did the paper.

It is pouring with rain now, I just got down to tea in time to be out of it.

You will let us know when to expect you.  Hope you will get this letter all right, I presume the Porter knows your name and rooms.

Love from all your affectionate Father

Julius Sladden
