My dearest Wife,

We were glad to have news of you to-day through your letter to May which arrived by afternoon post.

I think it is clear that the yacht did not call at Cyrene prior to calling at Corfu, as it is only a three days post from there and as she was there on 20th we must surely have  heard from Arthur because if he were not on board he would probably have sent letters from Cyrene by her had she called there. I am rather inclined to think his start will have been somewhat delayed, however we may hear from him any day getting some more definite news.

I am enclosing a letter from Mary Williams by which you will see she is now at Dowlais, so if A. returns soon he would probably want to run down there after doing any necessary business in London.

My present idea is to try and get to Eastbourne in time for dinner on Thursday and then remaining till Monday morning unless Arthur should arrive meantime when we could if necessary, for the purpose of seeing him en route, start back on Saturday.  I hope Aunt Lizzie won’t mind our making tentative arrangements of this sort.

The school tea went off quite successfully to-day, Ethel and I went down to it and afterwards the other two girls joined her in helping entertain the children on the field to which they adjourned, rain set in about 7P.M., however they had pretty well finished by that time.

The spring cleaning is at last over so everyone rejoices.  Brailsford has started digging the rose bed and a little rain will be good for the plants now, indeed the garden generally will benefit by a little dripping weather and the barometer rather betokens it.

You will be interested to hear that the Fortune-Mustoe engagement is announced, the young man only came to the scratch a few hours before leaving for Canada, he left to-day.

Give my love to Aunt Lizzie and tell her I shall be glad to get under her hospitable roof again and hope to find her pretty well, ask her not to provide too difficult a jig-saw puzzle!

I will leave this letter open till morning in case there should be more to say.

Much love dear
Your loving Husband

Julius Sladden

Saturday.  No further news.

If you have time you might write Aunt George and ask if you did invite her as intended.
