My dearest Wife,

I was glad to find your letter awaiting me when I came home to tea, I did not return to lunch as it rained heavily at that time.

I had a p.c. from Juliet but understood she was sending you a letter, I enclose one received from Cyril.  You should write this week to A.C. & B.

We too had a nice bright day here on Sunday.  May kept house in the evening while all the rest of the household went to Church, she had a slight head-ache which was better to-day but wants, I think, one more night’s rest to clear off entirely.  We do not think Xmas week will do for the dance, nearly all the bachelors will be away, I think we rather favour Friday Jan 3rd but the girls will further consider it in conjunction with the others.

I am sorry to hear about Lily’s baby but hope the operation will be successful.

You would have been amused yesterday, Evelyn was wood-gathering at Sunday school and brought the children up awfully late, while I was reading the first lesson the advance guard in the shape of the choir boys came rushing in at the door only to be stopped at the font by “Passon” who allowed them to proceed during the Te Deum, that over the main army arrived during the second lesson in which I was halted while they filtered into their places, the commander in chief had left them at the Ch gates and skedalled to the vicarage as is her want, Ma, breathing I think fire and slaughter, rushed off through the Chancel door returning just in time for the sermon after having (I presume) given her Daughter “summat”, altogether a most unedifying proceeding, of course all the congregation agog and on the chuckle!

Give my love to Fanny and Christine, tell the former I am sure she will take care of you but she must be strict as regards too many indulgences.

The girls join in much love to you, dear

Your loving Husband

Julius Sladden
