My dearest Wife,
You will expect another letter before moving on to Richmond so if I write this evening you should receive it on Sunday morning, if not earlier.
We have had two very cold days with some sleet and rain, you must be very careful how you get out if it is the same at Addlestone.
Brailsford moved on Wednesday and rather knocked himself up I think for yesterday it was as much as he could do to get down for milking, he seems better to-day which was fortunate for “Prioress” produced her calf (two days early) and he was able to look after her.
Ethel heard from Mela Constable to-day she will come here after all and has named next Thursday which is just convenient as Ethel will be coming down that day and they may arrange to travel together, Mela does not take up her new work till Dec 18 it is at St Peter’s Vicarage, St. Leonards and appears to be a suitable situation for her. Ethel has packed off Judy’s dress, veil etc. this evening so that she shall have them in good time.
I have brought two new warm vests as we found there were no others, they are not so rough as the old ones so should be less irritable to the skin.
Ethel proposes to go up by the 10.58 train on Monday and break her journey at Oxford to lunch with Mrs Lee.
I am glad Arthur was to come to dinner the other day, I expect you heard a little more about his plans for the future.
May called to enquire after Mrs Ashworth last Wednesday, she was in a sinking state and, I see by the local paper, died that same evening.
We have had a fire in the hall to-day which has made the house decidedly warmer. I walked up to Evesham and came back by train, for it was pleasanter than cycling.
I had an oyster lunch at the club.
I hope Fanny is quite well, my love to her.
