June 23/13

My dearest Wife,

I was glad to have your letter this afternoon to supplement the two post cards previously received.

I hope by this time you have got well rested from the journey and the preceding fatigues, I think we were all glad to get a Sunday to thoroughly recuperate.

Arthur got down on Saturday at 4.17 and left at 8 this morning, he seemed quite well and was of course glad to have a little time with Mary.

The baskets are at last packed for despatch to-morrow and I hope the Madeira work will go likewise.

Ethel keeps selling a few things and we are paying off liabilities as fast as possible, I think we shall manage to clear the £100 for although the expenses have run up somewhat the ticket money (for passes sold before the day) comes out about £15 rather more than anticipated and then there is nearly £12 taken in money at the gate, there will be about £14 net to pay for the Madeira work.

We had a little rain this morning but it soon cleared, this evening it is windy and has turned quite cold.

I will enclose letters from Cyril and Juliet which you will like to see.  I am sorry to hear that George has had another disappointment as regards promotion, however I hope his turn will come sooner than he anticipates.

How did the roses travel, the bloom has come on a great deal lately and the pergola is very pretty now.

I quite forgot to post you an Evesham paper with an account of the bazaar but must do so to-morrow.

The girls have been over the manor house this afternoon and were much interested, they seem to have still great schemes on hand and talk about it taking two or three years to complete.

The vicarage people returned on Friday, they have of course been studiously silent as to the bazaar!

I am glad you thought Aunt Lizzie looking well and I hope the rheumatism will not trouble her long, give her my love, also Dolly, tell the latter I shall be glad to have her with us on the Norway trip but I shall expect her to behave very nicely!

May did talk of going on Wednesday but will I think stay a day or two longer.

Much love from us all

Your affectionate Husband

Julius Sladden
