My dearest wife
I must write a few lines this evening to give you an account of my doings since I posted a letter yesterday. Kathleen and I went over to Mottingham to lunch, as arranged, found them all well. Aunt George has aged since I saw her nearly two years ago, but no more than might be expected, she said she was better than during last autumn, she begins to take things more quietly.
Leaving there about 3 o’clock we met Arthur at his flat for tea, Jack joining us, the flat is a very nice one and will look exceedingly well when everything is put in order, the furniture is mostly in and carpets down but of course pictures and ornaments are not yet in place and many little finishings must await Mary’s arrival. The furniture is well chosen and appears thoroughly good. Arthur was looking fairly well and in good spirits, he has been down here today.
When we left the flat we decided to spend the evening at home as there was nothing I wanted to see specially and theatres are apt to be crowded on a Saturday. This morning we went to church and Mela came in too and joined us at dinner Arthur came later). That over I started for Highate and got there about 3.30. Judy is much better and looks pretty well, cough nearly gone, we walked over to Hampstead (a lovely afternoon) but the Bowdens were away. However we got some tea near at hand and then walked back to the school where I left Judy and got back here in time for supper. I hope to get to Eastbourne at 11.42 tomorrow and you may expect me to reach Badsey station at 7.40 on Tuesday. I can walk up if fine and leave my bag to be brought up first chance, if weather is bad; you might send a trap if available. It is threatening rain a little this evening.
