My dear Husband,
I will write a few lines before post-time, that you may receive them on reaching Ash tomorrow. I hope you have had good sport today, how cold you must have been! We have had a few flakes of snow today & I think there is more to come.
I had supper at the Gepps last night & Mr Gepp brought out a bottle of Champagne in honour of my birthday. Mrs Burrows cannot come after all having caught an internal cold which obliges her to keep her bed. The little ones do not seem much better at present; Arthur had ear-ache this morning, looks pale & has lost his appetite, a rare thing for him. Jack’s football match did not come off on account of the frost, so he, May & Kitty walked with me to Wickhamford pond, to see when it was likely to bear; there were only two or three children on it, & they not in the middle, so I told them they must wait for another night or two of frost. The children are at tea, or they would send kisses to Father. Give my love to your Mother, Charlotte & Aunt Susan & with much love for yourself, darling
Believe me
Your loving wife
