My dear Mother
I am sending back the letters. We both enjoyed reading them. Betty sent Cyril’s on with a letter to me describing her afternoon with Rosie. You will have heard too no doubt and know that they got on famously and found a great deal to say to each other. I found a letter from George also waiting, which arrived this morning. Some of it, describing his journey back is rather amusing and I will quote some of it another day when I have time. Now it is too late for much. I had a comfortable journey to London; found it was snowing as we approached Paddington, which we reached on the stroke of eight. I got the 8.30 at Victoria to Crystal Palace, which by the timetable should have had a connecting train to Sydenham; however it was off apparently, there was no train for half an hour, so I decided to walk; but what with my packages and the state of the paths I was very glad to come to the end of the twenty minutes’ walk! Here more snow has fallen this afternoon and it is several inches thick. It is thawing now though and the result is about three inches of mixed snow and water all over the path, simply horrible and impossible to keep out with any shoes. The walk up from Badsey station on Friday was nothing to it! Now I must go to bed. I hope to hear you are still getting on. It was nice to come and see you all.
