My dear little Mother
As Boo has just gone, I will now get your letter written. Kath says that as I am writing she is going to be lazy and defer her letter until later in the week. I have been spending a very jolly weekend here as usual. I got over for lunch on Saturday as I have no classes after 11. Kath and I went for a good long walk in the afternoon – over to Dulwich and into the Picture Gallery there, and took a bus back. Jack was spending the afternoon crawling about Hampstead Heath learning to hide behind a blade of grass and such like little accomplishments, so we had tea and the whole evening until supper-time along together and gossiped hard all the time.
This morning we sat in the garden for some time and then did a little work, ad went to meet Cyril just before lunch. We all sat in the garden and talked until it began to get cool, and then retired to the study for tea. This evening we all went down to church at St Barts’ getting back for an 8 o’clock supper. Boo didn’t have to leave until 20 to 10 so I had time to play the piano to him and again we talked!
Thank you very much for sending me all the particulars concerning George; but (and you can’t imagine what joy it gave me, I felt so superior!) I knew them all before. He wrote to me in the train on his way down to Southampton, and of course I got the letter that same (Wednesday) evening. I was delighted to hear from him, especially as I had never thought he would have time to write – though indeed he wrote thinking that I was feeling rather out of it believing him to have gone without writing to me.
Cyril is looking very fit and quite cheerful. He has got bronzed and bigger than ever.
So we have arrived at the chaotic last week at school; on Wednesday the day-girls are giving us a break-up party. Friday of course is our own break-up. I will let you have a postcard later to say what train I am coming by. Would you send me a little journey money? I should be running it rather short if I managed on what I’ve got.
With much love to all
Ever yours affectionately
Betty
