My dear Juliet
Arthur tells me that you and Ethel have given us a lovely tray. It is good of you, thank you ever so much. It is so nice to be able to use slang sometimes, it is much more expressive than ordinary proper language.
Arthur must have had a highly exciting time on Saturday, opening all his parcels. I should love to have been there.
Mela says she is giving us a set of embroidered satin dessert d’oyleys (what a nasty little word that is to spell!) and Ethel is giving a set of shadow embroidered ones so when you all come to dinner we shall be very fine. Hubert and Irene are giving us a dinner-service so we shall have a few plates and dishes to go with the d’oyleys and dessert plates.
Mela hopes now that she will be able to come. I do hope she will, she is very anxious to see Cyril in his new top hat!
I am afraid this is a very hurried note but I spent too much of my time on Ethel’s letter and I wanted to write at once and tell you how pleased I was about the tray so couldn’t wait till tomorrow.
