Peter Mitchell was born in 1930 and prior to his ordination had served for nearly 20 years as a soldier, retiring with the rank of major. His ministry began in 1969, after two years at Rochester College of Theology, with a three-year curacy at Wargrave, near Oxford. Afterwards he was Vicar of Lund, Blackburn, for eight years before his institution to Badsey with Aldington and Wickhamford in 1980. He was appointed as a Chaplain to the Forces (Territorial Army) on 25th January 1988, and served a Directorship with the Worcester Diocesan Board of Finance Ltd from 1991-94. He retired in 1996 and lived in Evesham until his death in 2008.
The following note was sent by the PCC just prior to his retirement:
The Reverend Peter Mitchell, who has been the Vicar of Badsey since 1980, will be retiring at the end of this year. During his 15 years in the Parish he has become well known to most of us. He has helped with advice and guidance and, to many of his parishioners, has provided comfort and understanding during times of sorrow, illness and bereavement.
This note comes to you from the members of the Parochial Church Council. We propose to make a presentation to Peter to mark his retirement. Accordingly we invite you to contribute towards this presentation should you wish to do so. All contributions should be sent or given to our Treasurer, Mr R Gregory, at 37 Willersey Road, Badsey, Evesham, WR11 5HB, by 30th November, please.
The presentation will be made in St James’ Church, Badsey, at 7.45 pm on Sunday 28th January 1996. This will be quite separate from the normal evening service. Please come along and join us for the presentation when we shall wish Peter and Pat a long and happy retirement.
