Cheshire – Chester: St Peter’s Church

aCheshire-DOUGLAS%20James%20Sholto%20Memorial%20Chester%202.jpgLieutenant-Commander James Sholto Douglas, who lived in Badsey for just under a year prior to the war when assisting in the boys’ home at Badsey Manor House, is remembered on the war memorial in St Peter’s Church, Chester (where he grew up).

The war memorial takes the form of a stained glass window, with the names of those of the church who lost their lives (officers listed first, followed by the NCOs and men) engraved beneath the window and the inscription:

“TO THE GLORY OF GOD. THIS WINDOW COMMEMORATES THESE MEN WHO DIED FOR THEIR COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR OF 1914 – 1919.”
