GROVE, Francis (Will)

I, Francis Grove of Badsey, Gentleman, being of sound and perfect mind and memory and in pretty good health of body, give:

• To my nephew John Jones, All that my messuage or mansion house situate in Badsey aforesaid wherein I lately dwelt next the Sign House together with the barns, stables, outhouse, gardens, cottages, closes and one yard and three-quarters of a yard land of arable meadow and pasture lying in Badsey and the fields and commonable places and to the said messuage or mansion house belonging and which said premises are called or known by the name of Price’s or the Lower Living and is now in the occupation of my nephew John Jones as tenant (except the cottages and hereditaments hereinafter mentioned to be given to Benjamin Harold, Mary Pythard and Elizabeth Pythard)
• To Benjamin, son of Benjamin Harold by Ann his first wife, one cottage or tenement with the garden and orchard and all appurtenances thereunto belonging now in the occupation of William Rogers as tenant thereof, except and reserved out of the orchard so devised to Benjamin Harold a point of ground large enough to erect thereon one bay of building for a cottage or tenement and also a point of ground of the proportion of 10 yards square to be adjoining to the said cottage and to be used and occupied as a garden thereto
• I will that my nephew, John Jones, shall, within 12 months after my decease at his own costs and charges erect one cottage or tenement of one bay of building upon and in the orchard so devised to the said Benjamin Harold and do and shall also make and set out a point of ground for and to be used as a garden and outlet to the said cottage when erected and shall mound in the same from the other part of the said orchard with a sufficient hedge and I will order and direct that my nephew shall erect the said cottage in such convenient place of the said orchard as he shall think fit and I do hereby give the said cottage when so erected and also the said garden so to be added and adjoined thereto according to the intention of my will unto my sister Martha for the term of her natural life with free liberty of a convenient way and passage thereto and therefrom at all times and also the free use of the well belonging to Rogers’ tenement and from and after the decease of my sister then I give and devise the cottage and garden with the appurtenances unto my nephew William Jones for the term of his natural life and at the demise of my said nephews I give and devise the said cottage and garden with the appurtenances unto Joseph Jones, son of my said nephew William and to his heirs and assigns for ever
• I give to Mary, the wife of Thomas Pythard, the cottage or tenement with the appurtenances now in the possession of the said Mary for the term of her natural life and her demise I give same unto Elizabeth Pythard, daughter of the said Mary and her heirs for ever
• I give unto my said nephew John Jones and his heirs and assigns for ever, All my lands tenements meadows, closes pastures and hereditaments whatsoever situate in the parish of Offenham with all the buildings
• It is my will that Benjamin Harold shall have liberty of the two lower bays of barning belonging to Prices Farm to inn the corn growing on his own land and to thrash out the same for his natural life
• I give to my nephew Piercy Jones, All that my messuage or Tenement and farm called or known by the name of the Upper Living or Harwoods Living situate in Badsey, together with the quarter of a yard land purchased of William Darke and Thomas Grove and all lands tenements and appurtenances thereunto belonging containing in the whole one yard land, half a quarter, and half half a quarter of a yard land to hold to Piercy Jones and his heirs but charged with the several legacies or sums of money and also subject to the proviso hereinafter mentioned, that is to say, provided always
• And I do hereby give unto Benjamin Harold the son for his natural life only one acre of land in Adshall Field near Mr Seward’s New Piece and the hitheron of land in Blake Ground near Blake Ground Close
• And I also further will that my sister Mary Jones shall have the use and occupation of the parlour and room over it and the buttery in Harwood’s house for her natural life.
• I give to my sister Mary one annuity of £10 and to my sister Martha one annuity of £10 and to Mary Pythard one annuity of 40 shillings to be paid to them respectively for their natural lives at two half yearly payments by equal portions, the first payment to be made at the end of six months after my decease
• To my nephew Francis Grove Jones the sum of £20 to be paid at the end of 3 years after my decease
• To Benjamin Harold £20 to be paid at the end of 2 years after my decease
• These legacies to be paid by nephew John Jones and I do hereby charge and make chargeable all the premises hereby given and devised unto him with the payment thereof, and also with the payment of the sum of £60 and interest with I now owe unto my sister Martha on bond.
• To Benjamin Harold, the son, and to his heirs for ever All that my messuage with the appurtenances in the Bewdley Street in Evesham
• To my nephew, John Jones, my silver tankard and clock
•  To John Dorril son of Edward Dorril, the sum of £15 to be paid at and if he lives to the age of 21 years
• To my niece Ann, wife of Samuel Knight £20 to be paid within 2 years after my decease
• To Joseph, son of William Jones, £15 to be paid when and if attaining the age of 21
• To Mary, daughter of William Jones, to be paid when and if attain the age of 21
• To Thomas son of Thomas Pythard £5 to be paid within 3 years after my decease
• To my nephew, William Jones, £20 to be paid with 3 years after my decease
• All which said legacies I do hereby charge and make chargeable all the premises devised to my nephew, Piercy Jones, with the payment of the same
• To my sister, Martha, the use of my couch for her life and at her decease I give the same to my sister Mary.
• To my sister, Martha, and also to Mary Pythard, Thomas Pythard and Elizabeth Pythard and to each of them a suit of clothes to be provided for them at my demise at the expense of my nephew, Piercy Jones
• I give all my malt and also all my corn and grain as well, what shall be growing as otherwise at my decease unto my sister Martha and Mary Pythard, that is to say two third parts thereof to my said sister and the other third part thereof to the said Mary Pthyard
• To my sister, Martha, the bed and bedsheet whereon I lie with the quilt, curtains, two blankets, one pair of sheets, one little pot, one little kettle and my cupboard
• To the said Mary Pythard all the household goods now in her dwelling house and also one flock bed, two blankets, one pair of sheets, one pillow, one long cowl, one great spinning wheel, one old kettle, one warming pan and one cowl without a top
• To Elizabeth Pythard one little spinning wheel
• To Benjamin Harold the son the bed and bedstead over the kitchen, with the curtains, two blankets and two pairs of sheets
• To my sister Mary all my cane chairs and one table
• All the rest of my household goods not hereinbefore disposed of I give to my nephew William Jones and also all my wearing apparel
• I will that my sister Martha shall have the room over the buttery to put her goods in until she has convenience of removing them.
• To the poor of Badsey 40 shillings to be paid within 3 years after my decease by my nephews John Jones and Piercy equally between them.
• All the rest and residue of my estate I give to my nephew John Jones and his heirs
