Mr Charles Addis, foreman to Mr W H Thomas of Badsey (who is on service), applied for the exemption of Cecil Byrd, the only man he had got on 12 acres of land; he also looked after the horse and dray. Mr Addis said he did not see why Cecil Henry Byrd should go into the Army any more than "young Fred Byrd of High Street".

Mr Charles Harris, foreman for Mr W H Thomas of Badsey, who is on service, applied for a renewal of the certificate of Cecil Byrd, single, market gardener's labourer, with pony and dray to attend to. Mr Byrd said he had asked people with a view to getting a man in Byrd's place, but he had not advertised, or gone to the Labour Exchange. Mr Cholmondeley said a garden labourer who was 20 years old and single ought to be fighting for his country.
