Case for exemption
Mr C T Monck, of Offenham, appealed for Frederick William Hatch (39), Badsey, manager of market garden land, employed by him. Hatch is a married man with five children. Mr Monck said he had five acres of land. He employed no one else but Hatch excepting in the fruit season. Hatch had worked for him nearly two years. Three acres of the five consisted of fruit. In reply to Mr Cholmondeley, Mr Monck said personally he had been medically rejected. He would not have been able to push on without Hatch. Mr Monck admitted that he had not tried to get another man to fill Hatch’s place. He was able to do a little work himself but not much. Mr Monck said that Hatch told him that when he attested he was only passed for home service.
