Case for exemption
The military asked for a review of the certificate of exemption granted Walter Harry Jelfs (25), a stockman and slaughterman, in the employ of Mr John Byrd, of Evesham, living at Aldington, and a married man. Mr Cholmondeley pointed out that the case was adjourned because Mr Byrd’s son was also appealing. The Evesham Borough’s Tribunal granted Mr Byrd’s son temporary exemption until June 1 final. In reply to Mr Cholmondeley, Mr Byrd said he was going to ask the Borough Tribunal on Friday for leave to appeal again in the case of his son. Jelfs and his son both did the slaughtering. He was still shorthanded. He himself had been ill, and was not yet able to resume work. Jelfs had been passed for C2. Existing certificate withdrawn, and temporary exemption granted until September 1.
