We may expect to see German prisoners working on the land in the Vale of Evesham very early in the New Year. Mr J R Wright has received a letter from Captain Fellows, staff officer for prisoners of war, stating that the War Office has now definitely approved the scheme. Colonel J Winnington, DSO, has visited Evesham this week, and has inspected the new drill hall in Bengeworth and the old Manor House, at Badsey, and has expressed his approval for both places as suitable for housing the prisoners. An estimate has already been obtained for making the necessary alterations at the new drill hall to prevent attempts to escape, and to enable food to be cooked there. It is understood that Evesham will be the headquarters for the employment of German prisoners in any part of the District, and a committee is now in course of formation to superintend their employment. It is expected that a commencement will be made with 86 prisoners.
