MET WITH A READY RESPONSE
In a letter to the “Journal” from Private C H Crane, says:
“Being one of the 25 Evesham boys, at the time of writing on board, “somewhere where cannons roar”, and who would be glad to get some news from the old country, more especially Evesham news, I am writing for a favour by asking if it would be possible for you to send us one of the old “Journals” sometimes, so that we could keep in touch with Evesham news a bit."
He goes on to say:
“Reading matter is very scarce here, so that a paper would be very gratefully received. I am glad to say we have had a very pleasant voyage, except for being rather overcrowded. We had a short stay at Malta, where we enjoyed the fine scenery; then going on to Alexandria we spent several enjoyable days under canvas, on the outskirts of the town, and there finding it rather warm we enjoyed a much needed dip in the briny. We were not on a pleasure trip, though, as we found we had to put to sea again, and we now find ourselves preparing for more serious business, and are looking forward to an enjoyable and exciting time. When down in Cornwall we asked for some “Journals” and met with a ready response, for which we were very grateful, so that now we thought it would not be imposing too much by asking the same again. Wishing the “Journal” every success. The boys would like their many friends to know that they are all well and fit, and as our motto stands. ‘Firm’.”
