Ilford Print & Film Wallet with customer's name, SLADDEN, written on the back, and the words "4 Badsey ladies and a lad, including 3 Seward House helpers" and, at the top, "for Patsy"; the photo was developed at J J Meakins, Photographic Chemist, The Tower Pharmacy, Evesham. Wallet contains (A) Black and white photograph with the following pencilled comments on the back: "?1958, May Holley (back row right), Mrs Keen, Lily Crawford, ?, ?". The photo shows Mrs Alice Keen (1883-1859), her two daughters, Alice May Holley (1906-1980) and Lilian Rose Crawford (1907), and Lilian's two children, Margaret and George, taken about 1958.
Mrs Keen and Mrs Holley lived in Badsey and worked for the Sladden family at Seward House. Mrs Crawford had married and moved away to Scotland, so was presumably holidaying in Badsey. Seward House was occupied by three spinster sisters, May, Ethel and Juliet Sladden, the daughters of Sir Julius Sladden (1847-1928). The sisters continued to live at Seward House until their deaths in 1959, 1961 and 1984 respectively.
