Quarterly Badsey Society newsletter sent to members plus every house had the Society’s Local Heritage Initiative project newsletter. Mike Lovatt of Elm Cottage, Aldington featured. Events: Badsey Flower Show and walk at Aldington. Future events: Day School on old deeds; Memorabilia Evening; AGM followed by talk on horticulture and possibly Orchard Walk and asparagus evening. Don Dennick passed away in 2005. Mike Hewlett provided more information about pig-keeping in Badsey and about Badsey Pig Club, which was run by local men including Vic Wasley. Stan Hayes remembered Aldington Slaughterhouse and Pig Killers were either Elgar Hartwell or George Roberts. The Hewletts stopped keeping pigs after meat came off ration. At the Parish Council election Roger Martin was elected. Elections in 1894 were decided by a show of hands but that could cause arguments and Charles Hall demanded an official poll. Councillors elected were William Collett, Henry Keen, Tom Marshall, John Mason, William Mustoe, Samuel Johns, Tom Sadler, Julius Sladden and J F Woodward. Local affairs were dealt with by Vestry meetings prior to the establishment of Parish Councils by an Act of Parliament. The Society is opening a Memory Bank as a deposit for memorabilia and will hold a Memorabilia Evening for members to bring their items of interest.
