Quarterly Badsey Society newsletter sent to members. Events: Day School on old deeds relating to Badsey and Aldington. Two experts were present, Nat Alcock who wrote “Old Title Deeds” and Robin Whittaker of Worcestshire Record Office. At Memorabilia Evening Neil Thould and Chris Smith brought same photograph and after drawing up family tree they discovered they were related via Emma and Thomas Marshall, a former innkeeper at “The Wheatsheaf”. Exhibited was collection of possessions of Ernest Marshall who died in Great War. Tony Jerram discussed the Neuve Chappelle, campaign in which many men of Worcestershire Regiment died. Private Marshall was wounded at Neuve Chappelle and he is remembered in a poem “For the Fallen” by Laurence Binyon, brother of Charles Binyon. Future events: AGM; talk on “Grass Roots – A Brief History of Crops in Badsey”; Orchard Walk to Knowle Hill; Computer Training on Badsey Enclosure Maps; Badsey Flower Show and Badsey Village Walk. We had more memories from Shirley Wilce whose father George Evans and uncle Horace kept pigs and Chris Smith exhibited note on funding of his family pig. Request was made for War-time Memories.
